How do i know he likes me?

Well, my mom's friend's son is PERFECT! haaha hes smart, funny, nice, athletic, and soooo much more! ahah but he lives around 30 min away and my moms not great friends with his, so i barley even see him. But tonight my moms having a party and he's gonna be there with his twin brother and a lot of other teenagers!! haha and just to throw this in there, we really dont talk to eachother, but when we see each other hes seems to sometimes stare at me (because every year we go to the river with his and some other families) haha. Hes a sophmore and im a freshman, so i just wanted to know that it would be weird if we liked each other or go out, since our mom's our friends? and if not then how do i hint that im interested in him without being to obvious and forward, because they'll be othe rkids at the party? please respond asap!! thank you soo much! :)
